Every year, Odoo SA releases a new version. This is presented during the Odoo Experience week (free for everyone to attend in Brussels, Belgium). Thanks to the thousands of developers working at Odoo, the latest version always includes many beautiful new features and improvements. Advice?! Migrate/upgrade with us through our 7-step Odoo maintenance plan!

The amount of attention your Odoo upgrade requires depends on the complexity of the Odoo environment, such as:
* Number of custom layouts
* Use of Studio (fields, tables, etc.)
* Use of third-party apps (Odoo app store)
* Customization
Make sure to migrate your Odoo version together with us - every other year (preferably annually) to the latest version ( naar de laatste versie (see blog: every other year or annually

Here is an estimate of the hours needed per version upgrade step: 

1. Preparation and planning (2-4 hours):

  • Inventory of the current situation.
  • Planning of the upgrade.

 2. Backup en testomgeving opzetten (2-3 uur):

  • Securing a backup (Odoo, sh? then please use an extra stage for this).
  • Requesting technical upgrade 
  • Requesting third-party apps 

3. Checking the upgrade (3-5 hours and your own time!):

  • Are there views that have been deactivated in your test database but are active in your production database?
  • Are your usual views still displayed correctly?
  • Are your reports (invoice, sales order, etc.) generated correctly?
  • Are your website pages working correctly?
  • Can you create and modify records? (sales orders, invoices, purchases, users, contacts, companies, etc.)
  • Are there issues with your email templates?
  • Are there issues with saved translations?
  • Are your search filters still present?

4. Checking and adjusting of  (2-xx hours):

  • Custom layouts
  • Custom modules.

5. Testing and validation  (4-6 hours):

  • Performing functional tests - process walkthrough by users.
  • Discussing and resolving any issues.

6. Productie-upgrade (3-4 uur):

  • Perform an upgrade on the production environment .
  • Going through all the rules from the Odoo upgrade email 
  • Installing third-party apps
  • Final check and validation.

7. Aftercare and support (2-3 hours) on the day of go-live  

  • Resolving any issues after the upgrade.
  • Providing support to users.

In total, you will end up with an estimate of about 16 to 40 or more hours per year, in short, 2 to (sometimes) more than 5 days (if you have adjusted many layouts or reports, this can even go up to 10 days).
